A Multidisciplinary Career
John Hauer, PNNL

Knowledge in system analysis is very general and can be applied to many technical disciplines. The career of John Hauer is an example of this. After his Ph.D. he worked on nuclear reactor system identification at General Electric. He went on by developing methods for spacecraft navigation and guidance methods at the Boeing Company. At University of Alberta he was employed as an associate professor with research in nonlinear optimization. He then spent twenty years with Bonneville Power Administration working with identification, modeling and control of power system dynamics. Since 1994 John Hauer performs similar work at PNNL. The talk will provide an overview of system engineering based on his experience in different fields.
