SUMMARY:MSc presentation by Alex Bringsarve
DESCRIPTION:Kontakt: max.collins@iea.lth.se\n\nTeknoekonomisk analys av bat
terilager för peak shaving inom industrin – En fallstudie hos Holtab&nb
sp\;As intermittent power generation increases and grid owners raise power
-based tariffs\, manufacturing industries face rising electricity costs. T
his master’s thesis investigates the techno-economic feasibility of inve
sting in a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for peak shaving at Holtab
’s manufacturing facility in Tingsryd\, Sweden. The study developed a sim
ulation model in MATLAB that represents the facility’s load profile\, so
lar power generation\, and a hypothetical BESS. To study how the control a
lgorithm of the battery affects profitability\, two control algorithms wer
e implemented: one basic threshold-based strategy and an optimized control
algorithm with perfect foresight. Additionally\, an environmental analysi
s was conducted to weigh the carbon footprint of manufacturing the BESS ag
ainst the emission savings from increased solar self-consumption.The resul
ts indicate that a BESS capacity of 200-250 kWh satisfies Holtab’s techn
ical requirements while achieving acceptable profitability under a market-
based discount rate\, if the optimized control algorithm is used. The sens
itivity analysis highlights that the initial investment cost (CAPEX) is th
e most important parameter affecting profitability\, which underscores the
need for real supplier quotes. Environmentally\, the BESS significantly i
ncreases the self-consumption of excess solar energy\, which in turn reduc
es local emissions\, though systematic grid benefits remain complex to ful
ly quantify.Ultimately\, this thesis provides a robust investment decision
basis for Holtab and offers valuable insights for similar manufacturing i
ndustries in Sweden that are considering investing in a BESS.&nbsp\;Superv
